Among the fundamental principles of capitalism is that human beings are, by nature, competitive, aggressive and acquisitive and that any attempt to escape this basic trait by providing for those who fail to compete successfully (the poor, social misfits, criminals) is not only useless for they will merely become parasites, but also harmful to the species because they perpetuate faulty genes, promote dependency and sloth and (since the indigent normally produce many more children than the middle and upper classes) and ultimately create the conditions for social collapse.
