Tinnitus is a kind of swishing, ringing or other types of noises that one experiences. These sounds are felt as if they originate from the year and the brain. It is important to note that tinnitus has not been classified as a disease but as a symptom for diseases and conditions. There are different causes of tinnitus that includes individuals being subjected to loud sounds, sometimes even on brief periods, but usually after continuous exposure to loud sounds in high decibels. These sounds may have effects on the ear canal and the eardrum so that one experiences vibrations that are amplified in the ear, resulting to the ringing sounds. It is worth keeping in mind that these sounds are independent of external ones.

Other causes of tinnitus include the presence of foreign objects into the ear. This could be objects such as cotton wool accidentally falling into the inner ear when removing wax in the ear. Sometimes, tinnitus may not have great effects to the individual who has it, and may even live with it although it is such a nuisance. However, in some cases tinnitus is so disturbing and could even leader to disrupting the normal life of the individual and lead to surgical correction.
