Comparing and contrasting the ideas of ancient religions

Topic: Comparing and contrasting the ideas of ancient religions

Christianity was founded about two thousands years ago by Jesus Christ. Jesus was born into a family of Jews and was raised as one. He moved in different places preaching the coming of the Kingdom of God theory. The Bible was created by the followers of Jesus and is based on his teachings (Ferguson, 2003). The preaching of Jesus were ultimately accepted across the globe and this is how the Roman Catholic Religion became established. The missionaries and the priest played a major role in the spread of Christianity by even forcefully converting the natives (Duiker & Spielvogel, 2010).

On the other hand the founder of Buddhism was Siddhartha. Siddhartha was a lord’s son who lived a decent life but desired more. He went away from his home to start a new lifestyle for a period of six years, experimenting with meditation and later becoming the Buddha. He spread his teachings across India for forty-years and the merchants who used the trading routes spread this to China (Gross & Muck, 2000). It is said that the spread of Buddhism was as a result of a contagious diffusion based on the fact that it spread to people as a result of their proximity to practitioners. Emigration has recently (1950s) contributed to the spread of the religion to other regions in the world (Duiker & Spielvogel, 2010).
