Data Collection, Summarizing & Presenting Gun Control
?Data collection is the process by which a method such as a survey or observational enables the collection of data (McClave, Benson & Sincich, 2011). Upon collection of said data, one must identify the type of data acquired. The following will look at survey taken by Pew Research about the Debate on Gun Control. An overview of the survey, a problem, purpose, research questions and hypothesis will all be provided. In addition, a description of the instrument used for the data collection, a description of the data collected, how the data was collected, how it is coded and an evaluation of the procedures used will also be discussed. Conclusions will be introduced about the appropriateness of the data in relation to the study being discussed, an analysis of the data collected by computing descriptive statistics in the form of tables, charts, measures of central tendency and measure of dispersion. Lastly a recommendation will be made based on the study and its data.
Problem, Research Questions & Hypothesis
?The study conducted by Pew Research includes information regarding the opinions of Americans of various ages, ethnicities, genders & political parties asking them various questions regarding gun control. The problem posed in the survey is the current need for gun control. The survey asks what is more important to American’s, their 2nd amendment rights or their privacy. There are several other questions, such as the subject of the mentally ill owning guns or whether school officials should be able to bring them to school (“In Gun Control Debate, Several Options Draw Majority Support”, 01/14/2013).
?A more in depth look will be provided in the following when the data collected is discussed. It is believed that the American people will be split in opinion on the various questions being raised throughout the survey. In addition, it is believed that the majority will be in favor of stricter gun controls in areas of background checks, as well as any tracking for guns sold. Furthermore, it is hypothesized that the American people will be in favor of elimination of automatic weapons and its ammunition sales.
