Economic and Voluntary Spirit Models

Economic and Voluntary Spirit Models

There are many differences between the two models, economic model and voluntary spirit model, but the main difference is the role of individuals as rational economic actors. While the economic model assumes that people are economic actors and they require incentives in order for them to act as they are expected, the voluntary spirit does not (Brainard & Siplon, 2004). The voluntary spirit model recognizes that people act in the way they do because of public spirit, and even when there is motivation, this motivation is not based on self interest as is the case with economic model. Secondly, the economic model utilizes the purpose and material or resource incentives for supporters while the voluntary spirit model utilizes purpose and solidarity benefits of fulfilling a cause.
