Is there a way for your organization to service if your systems are not working properly?

Is there a way for your organization to service if your systems are not working properly? I will give you an example: we have planes here that will stop flying for weeks at a time because there EDI systems goes down. So as much as I think it is a great thing, I do believe that you can become overly dependent on the systems. The accuracy of the system in the port in Singapore seems amazing. I would like to see something like that in person.
