NUR3101 Primary Health Care In A Global Context

Task:

This assignment requires you to select a country (of your choice) and analyse a health issue, discussing the Primary Health Care Strategies and/or Framework that exists in your country of choice, addressing the health issue. 

Assignment 2 is extension of Assignment 1; apply the same concepts and discuss and analyse the impact on Nursing practice and cultural competence in Nursing that promotes the health prevention in individuals, communities and populations. Recognition of the health issue’s impact on a global level will also be examined.

Course Objectives Measured

1. Demonstrate an understanding of equity, social justice and the epidemiology of health and disease across different population groups in a global context.

2. Critically analyse the significance to nursing practice of (i) the social determinants of health; (ii) the health impacts of climate change and environmental degradation; (iii) availability, accessibility, acceptability, affordability and cultural appropriateness of health service provision.

3. Identify and understand prevalent global health issues. 

Task Detail

Primary Health Care (PHC) is the broad term that includes the concepts of the principles of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the approaches to health policy and service provision to both individuals via Primary Care and to populations through Public Health.  

Identify one country, other than Australia, and using the same primary health issue that you discussed in Assignment One:  

Discuss the social determinants of health (SDoH), including equity and social justice, and how they have contributed to causing or solving this health issue.

Interpret epidemiological studies that have been conducted identifying this health issue

Analyse the primary health care nurse’s role in your chosen country, including discussion on what they are doing to help solve the health issue identified

Reflect on the use of cultural competence in the Primary Health Care nurse role in supporting this health issue
