Transformative learning experience
In human development, transformative learning is a core aspect in determining perspectives of an individual’s mind. This particular kind of learning involves psychological understanding of self, convictional awareness and behavioral truthfulness. Learning is an experience purposed to shift as well as develop frames of references to help man become aware of him or herself and improve performance in roles and responsibilities. Frames of references are described as a set of ideas, values or principles a person uses in assessing or evaluating meaning. According to Mezirow’s theory of transformative experience, what we have become to be is under influence of our environments in terms of culture, religions and education. What we are predisposed to alters our point of view. Equally, through this learning the adult mind is equipped with knowledge that involves questioning set ideologies and beliefs in the society to acquire meaning from their assumptions. This paper describes critical turning points in my personal experience relating such transformations in state of mind, beliefs and knowledge of certain realities to acquaintance of transformative theory (Mezirow, Taylor, 2009).
