United States Constitution

Following the ratification of the United States Constitution, heated debates over the nature and role which the new federal government of United States was supposed to assume ensued. These debates were between the federalists and the Republicans concerning the powers or rather the authority of the central government versus the states. The Federalists favored the central government while the republicans favored the state. Central to this debated were the political philosophies articulated by two very important members in the history of the United States Government who presented very divergent views which the new federal government was expected to adopt. The debates were based on the Ideas of Alexander Hamilton and Alexander Jefferson.
